A weak signal in the bedroom, warehouse, or back office is not always a reason to replace your internet plan. In the WiFi router vs access point decision, the right answer depends on whether you need to create a network, extend coverage, or do both. When an Access Point Makes More Sense

How to Choose the Right Setup

Start with the layout, not the product box. Router placement, wall materials, floors, and the number of connected devices matter more than the maximum speed printed on the package. A router placed low on the floor, inside a cabinet, or behind a TV will not deliver its best coverage.

For a small home, place the router in an open, central area. For a long or multi-floor property, plan an access point near the center of the weak zone rather than at the edge of the strong signal. An access point cannot overcome every physical obstacle, but closer placement to the devices makes a major difference.

Match the wireless standard across your key devices where practical. WiFi 6 is a strong value choice for most homes and offices, especially with many phones, laptops, and smart devices. WiFi 7 may be worth considering for newer high-performance devices and long-term upgrades, but it will not make an old phone or laptop faster than its own WiFi capability.
